Safety Policy
Furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps and water heaters involve combustion gas, carbon monoxide, 240 V circuits and refrigerant. Our pages limit owner steps to non-invasive checks: reading the code, thermostat settings and batteries, the breaker and service switch, the air filter, the condensate drain and float, confirming the gas supply valve is open (no disassembly), clearing vent terminals of snow or debris, and a power reset only where the manual allows it.
If you smell gas: leave the building, don't operate switches, and call your gas utility or 911 from outside. If a CO alarm sounds: get everyone outside and call 911.
Gas valves, burners, flame sensors, venting, wiring, control boards and refrigerant (EPA Section 608) are always referred to a licensed technician.
